Queens’ Medical Centre, Barnstaple
2000

Client: Queen’s Medical Centre, telephone 01271 372672.

Project: New general medical practice premises on a restricted town centre site. Includes consulting and treatment suites, plus seminar & meeting areas. Good access for all with control over non patient areas.

Background: The practice was operating in converted Grade II listed premises in Barnstaple which were overstretched. The new site was chosen after long evaluation balancing the many requirements of the practice.

Design: The brief was for a distinctive building within a very tight budget. The project has a steel central frame to achieve maximum flexibility, but traditional interior finishes and exterior details for the image the client required. There are particular requirements for confidentiality and access that are fully incorporated within the design.

Contract: 755m2 Contract sum: £622,000 (£76/ft2) Contractor: Stansell Limited (traditional).

Completion: Spring 2000.
