Torbridge Veterinary Centre
1996

Client: Torbridge Veterinary Practice, telephone 01237 472075.

Project: New Veterinary Practice premises on a new industrial estate. Includes consulting and treatment suites, with ancillary provision for staff and customer parking, loose boxes and fenced yard for large animals, exercising areas. Potential for upgrade to Veterinary Hospital status.

Background: The Practice was operating in premises constructed in 1900 in the centre of Bideford, purpose built to cater for the horses. This was no longer appropriate for most customers and new premises were sought for the long term future.

Design: The brief was for a distinctive building within a very tight budget. The project has a steel frame and steel cladding for speed of construction and cost efficiency, but traditional interior finishes for the image the client required.

Contract: 465m2 Contract sum: £199,000 (£40/ft2) Contractor: Stansell Limited (traditional).

Future: The Practice has significantly increased the small animal clientele and is now investing in upgrades to Veterinary Hospital status.
